De Nieuwe Vorm: Second Step

Almar and Wouter started work on a theatre piece, which was to be called 'De Nieuwe Vorm' (The New Shape). In it, musicians playing Almar's music, would be projected on with images made by Wouter. Though it is on hold right now, 'De Nieuwe Vorm' still provided some interesting pieces.

Based on the music Almar wrote for the First Step, Wouter and Rachel Visscher created an al new poem and film.

De Nieuwe Vorm: First Step

Almar and Wouter started work on a theatre piece, which was to be called 'De Nieuwe Vorm' (The New Shape). In it, musicians playing Almar's music, would be projected on with images made by Wouter. Though it is on hold right now, 'De Nieuwe Vorm' still provided some interesting pieces.

To get a hold of the content, Almar and Wouter asked writer Rachel Visscher to write a poem. Based on that, they made music and images, which resulted in this:

Uit-Zicht: Aftiteling

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. For the start of the play, and also for the credits, Almar wrote an original song. Singer Justine Enuma seranades the sea in a sad and sombre ballad: 'The Water'.

Uit-Zicht: Dood

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The seventh one is 'Dood' (Dead). After being taken out to sea, Mats's heart finally stops and he recollects some memories in a final hallucination before he dies. Floating images are accompanied by a clinical, yet moving score.

Uit-Zicht: Naar Buiten

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The sixth one, 'Naar Buiten' (Going Outside) is not really a hallucination, but rather just a look through a window, when the two friends go outside, Pelle pushing his friend Mats in a wheelchair, on their last trip to see the sea. While it still has some surrealistic qualities, this is the only film that depicts real life and mainly represents their strong relationship. Almar goes all out here: he made a sweeping score for Mats's last journey.

Uit-Zicht: Sinaasappelborsten

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The fifth is called 'Sinaasappelborsten' (Orange Breasts). While Mats's friend Pelle talks about his wife Marian, Mats links the oranges in Pelle's hands to her breasts. In a playful dance, the oranges soon turn into something more sinister. Almar made a chilling score, which begins ever so happily, but ends in a shrill note.

Uit-Zicht: Voorlezen

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The fourth hallucination is 'Voorlezen' (Reading). While his caretaker Sebastiaan reads him from a book, main character Mats floats of in a dreamy sequence, in which Sebastiaan is shown as a saint, and Mats's estranged friend Pelle as a cold intruder. Almar composed relaxing music, which perfectly captures Mats's peace of mind at that moment.

Uit-Zicht: Moeder

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The third one is 'Moeder' (Mother). Mats, the main character, studies a spider walking on the wall behind him. This image fades away to his mother, who is caught in a spider's web, amidst a fairy-like wood. Almar's music accentuates the feminine aspect.

Uit-Zicht: De Koe

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The second one is 'De Koe' (The Cow). The main character has a disturbing vision of his father as a demon-like cow, while creepy circus-y music plays in the background.

Uit-Zicht: Scheermessen

For the play Uit-Zicht (by theatre-group Het Werkstuk), Almar and Wouter created some 'hallucinations'. The first one, 'Scheermessen' (Razors) combines nature-like scenery with surrealistic razorblades and a peaceful ending, accompanied by a New Age-y score.

50 Gasten: Kliko

50 Gasten is a short film about a waiter's first day in a restaurant. He encounters many customers (gasten) and uses his imagination to live through his workshift.

Almar made a Psycho-like theme for Daniel (the main character) charging some guests with a 'kliko' (garbage cart).

50 Gasten: Theme

50 Gasten is a short film about a waiter's first day in a restaurant. He encounters many customers (gasten) and uses his imagination to live through his workshift.

This was Almar en Wouters first meeting! Almar made a full orchestral score for Wouters examination-project at the School of the Arts in Utrecht, Holland. To be honest: Wouter didn't make this animation, being far to busy filming. It was made by Thijs Albers.

Almar composed a waltz, which accentuates the sarcastic tone of the movie, and also captures the main character's bumbling nature.
